I think I posted on here a million years ago about being upset about vegetarian options at Chartwells, and someone contacted me saying they wanted to start up some kind of animal rights group. But... it never happened as far as I know and I haven't heard anything else about it since.

blah. yeah i just started. so far the only animal rights type thing i've heard about it the humane society walk next month. it'd be nice to find more ppl interested in that sort of thing, just not sure how to find em. the UM LJ doesn't seem too active and i checked the UM myspace boards and that doesn't seem too active either and well, I don't really know many people at school right now.

I'd suggest going to groups like Greenpeace and other environmentalist organizations. The problem is that the pool of people who care about causes like animal rights at UM is relatively small. As it stands, there are almost more organizations than there are progressives. You can definitely find like-minded people who would be interested. Also, maybe some of the pre-vet people would want to start up something like that. If you're interested in starting a group, it's going to require you going to them, and basically hounding them. I speak from experience. Good luck!

(P.S. You should come to the Humane Society walk. Bring your bike, too, if you have one. There's a biking event going on the same day downtown. Also, the next day after is going to be a networking event for those interested in animal rights at the Wallflower Gallery. I think you may have e-mailed me asking me about progressive student groups at UM, but I was so caught up in writing a thesis that I probably lost your e-mail in the insanity. But now I'm graduated and happy to point you in the right direction. Drop me a line... weston DOT leah AT gmail DOT com)
